RYAN WHY WOULD YOU STEAL MY IDEA?What if I do a mini-t-Rex mini-giveaway…..??T-Rexes were born in wee little eggs, and they came out all tiny and adorable. I know, I know: paleontologists have been saying this for years, but we never believed them because they couldn’t produce tiny adorable plushies to prove it. UNTIL NOW.
Micro T-Rex is three inches of soft and fuzzy adorable, and comes with that removable plastic keychain clip you see pictured, so he’s ready to hang out wherever you go! He is Down for Hangouts!
I would type more but he’s TOO CUTE, look at his little arms, i’m DYINGGuys these just came out today and I really think you should buy one. Only $8.50! How can you put a PRICE on LOVE
This is a great idea! EVERYONE who reblogs this gets one entry, and tomorrow I will choose one reblog at random and send them one! REBLOG AWAY AND T-REX MIGHT COME LIVE IN YOUR HOUSE / HANG OFF YOUR FINGERS AND KEYS
Whoah we are now have over 400 notes on this giveaway! That’s nutty! And as a 1 in over 400 chance hardly seems THAT fair, I’m going to award ANOTHER Key Rex for every 400 notes this post gets. A reblog is your entry to win, go nuts, according to these rules I could give away HUNDREDS of adorable green dinosaurs if things get really implausibly crazy!!
I am very happy that these little guys will be going to enthusiastic Tumblr homes!
Think I’m gonna make this shirt maybe
We’ll miss you.
Just another one to remember:
I had the great pleasure of reading your unsolicited critique of the “Ch-Check It Out” music video [“Licensed to Stand Still” by Stephanie Zacharek, May 16]. It took some time to get to me, as it had to be curried (sp?) on goatback through the fjords of my homeland, the…
And there were political moments, too. In the heat of the first wave of the Occupy movement, I produced this chart, which addressed the inherent unfairness of the alphabet. I passed it out around New York City. Some people took it with a grain of salt; others, with an entire shaker.
Salt, of course, was the source of one of the pieces I created for ILoveCharts that wasn’t exactly a chart. It’s in the book, so I won’t reprint it here. I will only remind you to go out and buy the book, so that you can experience the glory of the chart form in all its rational, irrational, sensible, senseless glory.

If you play “It Takes Two” super loud right now, your day will be approximately a billionty times better.
I NEED THE SPARTY ONE

For the NCAA’s March Madness Nike has put together a fantastic set of movie poter-esque prints for a few of the usual contenders. Well, they were considered contenders at the beginning of the tournament — sorry, Duke.
I feel like it was a pretty strong year in Music. That said, I don’t think there would be any point in ranking my favorite albums of the year. There was lots of good stuff though. Here are a number of them, along with quick thoughts:
Frank Ocean, Nostalgia Ultra: Though overshadowed by his louder-mouthed cohort Tyler the Creator, this R&B album is the real gem to come out of someone who is a member of Odd Future… Also the winner of the “Should have paid attention earlier” Award. I didn’t find a copy until recently, but it has high re-playability, a knockout single, and best of all, it’s free. Frank put it up on his Tumblr when Def Jam wouldn’t release.
The Rural Alberta Advantage, Departing: This follow up to 2009’s, also spectacular, Hometowns comes in quick, rocks you, and then stays with you. Stamp will get stuck in your head for days. Coldest Days will remind you of the pain of winter, and Barnes’ Yard is quick treat, done better than the album on their Daytrotter Session.
The Rural Alberta Advantage - Barnes’ Yard
City and Colour, Little Hell: This album caught me by surprise. I was in the car, and heard one of the older songs, and it struck a particular chord with me. So I went looking, and I really liked what I found. You can feel everything Dallas Green sings on this album, just like his previous work. I highly suggest going back to his live album as well.
Adam Ben Amitai, Ka’akua: This was the first album I really wanted to find this year. After hearing the first single, 12 Reasons, I fell in love it with it. The album didn’t disappoint. It is compact, tells a story. Really promising debut, I hope he can keep it up. NOTE: The album is all in Hebrew.
Adam Ben Amitai - Nizcarti B’atzmi
Adam Ben Amitai and Avigail Roz - You Don’t Know
Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers, Gift Horse: It is well known that I love SK6, and I am happy to report I enjoyed their new album a good deal more than the previous one. There are a number of choice cuts, including Who We Are, Who We Become. Give it a whirl, definitely has something for everyone.
Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers - Gravity
Mayer Hawthorne, How Do You Do?: Mayer Hawthorne is from Ann Arbor, and yet I do not hold that against him. He does a tremendous job of taking the smooth R&B sound of the 60’s and 70’s, and making it sound like he belongs. Can’t hate on that. Oh, and when the Lions wouldn’t replace Nickelback with him on Thanksgiving Day, he performed from his parent’s basement, with all local artists, and streamed it live for Rolling Stone.
Lera Lynn, Have You Met Lera Lynn?: I am not quite sure how to classify this one. Singer/Songwriter? Folky? Alt-country? Whatever it is, I fell in love with it. It is terrific from top to bottom. This is a great combination of songwriting and talented guitar work. I’d love to see her live, and hope she will come North of the Mason-Dixon line sometime soon.
Lera Lynn - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (Neutral Milk Hotel Cover)
Childish Gambino, Camp: This album is a lot of fun. Donald Glover is talented, he’s a hell of a writer, and he does it all himself. He’s introspective, and writes, sings, and raps about his real life. Some people will tell you he’s trying too hard, but I’ll take this over Drake any day of the week. Oh, and the name comes from a Wu Tang Clan name generator.
Decemberists, The King is Dead: Another great album from the band. Not sure what else there is to say, they are just consistent. To top if off, they went and got Michael Schur, creator of Parks and Rec and Mose Schrute, to direct a video straight out of Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace. Awesome.
Decemberists - Calamity Song Video
Beirut, The Rip Tide: I wasn’t quite sure what to expect here, but I love the album. However, the true way to really appreciate Beirut is to see them in person. I was able to, thanks to winning a contest from the A.V. Club Ann Arbor, and their energy blew me away. Would definitely go see them again. I suggest starting with this live show from the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., so graciously recorded and streamed courtesy of NPR.
Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Mirror Traffic: Everyone has been waiting for Stephen Malkmus to make this album since Pavement broke up, and he started putting out solo stuff. Is it a result of Pavement having a short reunion this year? Maybe not, but the album is here, and we can all enjoy it. I do.
Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks - Tigers
Mike Doughty, Yes and Also Yes: Mike Doughty is another artist whose new releases I am always excited to hear. I started listening to his double Skittish/Rockity Roll, and he’s always had great stuff. You can hear the effort that goes into what he writes, and as usual, he has another great album to show for it. He also has a memoir coming out next month called The Book of Drugs.
LCD Soundsystem, Final Show Bootleg: I don’t know if this is still up, but you should probably poke around for it. LCD Soundsystem called it quits this year, and so they played an incredible show to wrap everything up. They had all kinds of special guests, and played everything you want to hear. Hands down my favorite bootleg of the year.
Bon Iver, Bon Iver: This album was excellent. It has all kinds of depth, and rounds out the Bon Iver sound. It is not a follow up to For Emma, Forever Ago. It is a great album, with a different sound, and needs to be appreciated for that.
Wilco, The Whole Love: Hands down my favorite album of the year. Opens with the excellent Art of Almost, and closes with the spectacular One Sunday Morning (Song for Jane Smiley’s Boyfriend). Jeff Tweedy could personally insult me for 40 minutes in between those two songs, and I would still love this album. You can hear every era of Wilco in this one album. It is completely worthy of being placed on repeat.
These are all excellent.
Banksy’s new sculpture. Love it.
